Job Description

POSITION IS REMOTE. Austin location is for Idealist requirements.Reports to: Director of Advocacy & Civic EngagementKey Collaborators: Director of Leadership Programs, Senior Director of Programs, Director of CommunicationsAllocation of work: 50% policy and advocacy strategy and coordination, 25% legislative tracking and policy analysis, 25% state leader training & supportPosition Purpose: This position is for a generalist with knowledge about organizing, policy, and using data to build power. The ideal candidate is excited about the intersection of policy and building power, and would enjoy taking on policy work that connects with campaigns before, during, and after legislative sessions. This person cares about supporting the professional development of and building relationships with organizing and policy staff at Equality Federation member organizations. This person understands and is excited about demystifying the VAN for new users and working with veteran users to develop innovative data-based plans. The ideal candidate has an understanding of how LGBTQ issues intersect with racial justice, disability justice, and economic justice priorities. They have a broad vision for the work done by the LGBTQ movement. This position will be part of the Advocacy team and will work directly with the Director of Advocacy & Civic Engagement to further the work of Equality Federation.Desired Competencies and ExperienceExperience in state-level policy advocacyKnowledge of legislative and administrative process and proceduresStrong group trainer and facilitatorAdvocacy & legislative campaign planningExperience using VAN and predictive modelsExperience working in queer & racially diverse communitiesExperience with 1:1 coaching/mentoringAbility to work well with a distributed teamPolicy analysisStrong racial equity analysisFluent in Google SuiteAbility and desire to travel up to 30% (when safe)Self-starter
