General program information and/or position overview. NIWC Pacific RADIAC Boilerplate: The candidate will support the NIWC Pacific Radiation Detection, Implementation and Computation (RADIAC) program in the design, development and deployment of radiation detection systems. The candidate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of technicians, engineers and scientists to research detection technologies, interface with users to understand needs and requirements and field complete radiation detection solutions. Primary Responsibilities. Collaborate with others on the science, engineering, and technician teams to troubleshoot, mitigate, and document any issues related to radiation sensors Keep up with knowledge relating to cutting-edge radiation detection technologies Develop prototype radiation sensors using customer input and knowledge of the latest technologies Assist with transitioning prototype technologies to customers for fielding Utilize oral and written communication skills to effectively interface to all levels of personnel, and provide updated reports to stakeholders Create and update specification sheets and user guides for fielded sensors Assist in managing duties and provide mentorship to new personnel as required Assist in project management tasks including supporting project reviews, preparing SOWs and cost estimates, and drafting project status reports Lead and provide system operations and sustainment training to users Model the performance of radiation sensors and relevant algorithms Measure, assess, and discuss radiation sensor performance to stakeholders to drive development efforts Assist with QA/QC efforts Basic Qualifications. Doctorate degree in nuclear engineering from an accredited university 2+ years of related nuclear engineering experience beyond graduate school Experience with Monte Carlo simulation codes Experience with gamma-ray spectroscopy and isotope identification techniques Indepth understanding of detection of alpha and beta particles, gamma-rays, and neutrons Experience with handling and utilizing ionizing radiation sources, including check sources and machine sources Oscilloscope and multi-meter experience Experience with NIM equipment and digitizers Experiences with interacting with DoD radiation detector field users Clear communicator (oral and written) Organized Preferred Qualifications. Knowledge related to radiation dosimetry Experience with codes for reading and processing data (e.g., MATLAB and Python) CAD experience (e.g., SolidWorks) Microsoft Office Project management experience Original Posting: April 1, 2025 For U.S. Positions: While subject to change based on business needs, Leidos reasonably anticipates that this job requisition will remain open for at least 3 days with an anticipated close date of no earlier than 3 days after the original posting date as listed above.
