Job Description

LOCATION Remote Send resumes to mailto Notes Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance s OK Cannot accept H1 candidates for his government client Task Description The Mainframe DB2 DBA will be responsible for all installation, maintenance, and monitoring of all DB2 subsystems to meetexceed key business measurements. Additionally the DBA will be part of a 4 person team, assisting and backing each other on CICS and RACF if needed. DB2 System Administrator Recent experience working with the Railroad Retirement Board Support the installation of new versions of Db2 and QMF for zOS, as well as periodic maintenance for both. Support IBM ShopzSeries Support IBM CustomPacmethodology. The RRB requires some proficiency with SMPE. Support migration of the new or modified software product to each of the seven Db2 subsystems that exist on three separate LPARs. RRB does not use data sharing. Monitor performance of the subsystems to ensure smooth operation, and take necessary action when performance issues occur. Document problems that occur. Coordinate problem resolution with the RRB and report to IBM using the Service Request process, if necessary. Provide information on the use of Db2 to DBAs, programmers and end users and advise when solutions are needed. Contractor shall maintain the mainframe to the most current Db2 technology. Also experience in the following areastools but not limited to Db2 Connect QMF for Workstation Data Studio MainView BMC Products for DB2 MainView Performance Reporter for DB2 DB2Data Base Administrator (DBA) Create and maintain the DB2 production and test environments, examples as follows DBP1 (production) 1 instance DBT1 (acceptance testing) 3 instances DBW1 (development testing) 7 instances DBZ1 (contractor testing) 3 instances Create and maintain duties, include, at a minimum Define, alter, and drop databases and table spaces. Create and alter application tables based on information provided by data architects. Provide technical assistance and assist developers to resolve program problems. Provide support during major application development efforts such as database and system modernization. Write data conversion programs when necessary. Some RRB programs have been written in COBOL. Work with the DB2 system engineer to resolve performance issues and complex developer and analyst requests. Create and maintain the utility JCL for all databases in all subsystemsinstances. On-call to resolve application-related production problems. Use the RRBrsquos version of Endevorto review program listings and develop application programs, if needed. To perform much of the day-to-day work, the following IBM utilities are typically used UNLOAD ndash from database and also from image copy LOAD IMAGE COPY RECOVERY RUNSTATS REORG REPAIR MainViewndash to monitor DB2 performance information. To perform routine tasks, the following BMC utilities are typically used Catalog Manager ndash to view DB2 objects, such as tables, columns, views, etc. Change Manager ndash to define, alter, and migrate DB2 objects. The following are used usually with system engineer assistance Logmasterndash to extract information from DB2 log. End to end Project Management (PM) Business analysis throughout the project Required skillsLevel of Experience Mid Level or higher DB2 DBA experience General understanding CICS and (RACF) Client interaction experience .
