Job Description

Mechanical design engineer

London based with occasional WFH

Salary is competitive + unlimited annual leave

Working hours: Monday to Friday 8.5-hour day with 1hr lunch (inc) flexible around 10:00-16:30

To design and develop new products, from concept to commercial product, to develop existing products with the aim of maintaining/improving market share, reducing costs, and widening their scope of applications.

Daily Duties:

Research and Development
Manage and coordinate product development projects.
Prepare technical documentation for the product, including drawings, diagrams and descriptions where required.
To apply agreed design standards in the project process to ensure common design features and parts, and approved material suppliers are utilised to enable standard and low-cost manufacturing methods - promoting quality, cost and delivery (QCD) in design.
To conduct design reviews and effective handovers with operations to ensure information is timely, complete and correct to enable manufacture.
To ensure that the product being designed is fit for purpose in terms of function and certification. This includes specification and selection of purchased components and where possible the use of approved suppliers.
Work with team to obtain relevant certification to show compliance with applicable standards.
Prepare the production files for the new product, and ensure all provision is met that enables the product to be manufactured in accordance with regulations and standards. This includes test plans and designing test equipment.
To prepare and present appropriate and correct files of production information within an agreed timescale. Such file includes drawings, bills of material, specification and test documents as necessary.

Experience Required:

CAD development of machined, injection molded and fabricated parts/products (Ideally Solidworks)
Basic understanding of electronics and control systems
Experience of designing components for manufacture and assembly.
experience of creating assembly drawings and associated technical drawings.
