Collins Aerospace, Applied Research and Technology organization is looking for a highly motivated materials , p rocesses and structural behavior modeling engineer.

This is a remote or hybrid position within the United States. Windsor Locks, CT is the preferred location.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Process modeling of conventional as well as additive manufacturing processes applicable to metallic materials in order to predict the material state
  • Process-structure-properties modeling to predict material behavior for various metallic materials such as Titanium, Aluminum , Nickel and shape memory alloys
  • Through sensitivity analysis, guide selection of and coordinate model validation experiments
  • Apply the models to part geometries in order to design, analyze and optimize metallic structures for given application requirements
  • Structura l, topology and multi-disciplinary optimization of Collins Aerospace products
  • Work with integrated product teams to reduce designs to physical parts
  • Lead project efforts to successful completion and on-time delivery
  • Create technical presentations and reports to communicate results to Collins Aerospace technical community

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years' experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S Citizen or U.S. Person/Permanent Resident "Green Card" holder

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. degree in Engineering, i.e., Mechanical Engineering, Materials Sciences & Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering degrees, or equivalent in a related program of study at an accredited college or university with 5 or more years of related industr ial experience
  • Experience and expertise in Finite Element Methods (FEM), including use of software tools such as DEFORM, ABAQUS, ANSYS, LS-DYNA to simulate material processes and behavior under additive and composites manufacturing a s well as varied application conditions
  • Experience is developing user subroutines for multi-scale FEM simulations
  • Experience in crystal plasticity modeling
  • Experience with structural and multi-disciplinary optimization methods
  • Experience with CAD software packages, e.g. NX, CATIA
  • Ability to understand basic technical issues and develop solutions within scope of responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams with internal and external participants
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
