Position description

The Tax Manager will be responsible for managing at least one topical area within the Tax Unit, including day to day direction of staff, tracking and monitoring status of projects and returns, and long-term planning and strategy in connection with the topical area assigned. The Tax Manager is responsible for project planning, including multi-year projects, resource allocation and budgeting, and training of personnel (both within the unit and in other areas at Mayo as needed). Additionally, the Tax Manager will be responsible for achieving and maintaining technical expertise in the topical area assigned; keeping abreast of legislative, regulatory, industry and other environmental changes; and building and maintaining relationships within and outside of Mayo in order to assist Mayo to remain in compliance in the topical area assigned. The Tax Manager will be expected to interface with various regulatory agencies and manage audits as needed.

The Tax Manager works collaboratively on multi-disciplinary work groups and projects; spearheads change and leads complex projects as assigned by leadership; and provides technical expertise to various personnel and departments within Mayo. The Tax Manager is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of programs and tools for tax compliance; the interpretation and implementation of tax laws, policies and regulations; the drafting and implementation of policies and procedures pertaining to tax issues; and identifying opportunities and recommending options for improving or maintaining tax compliance, while helping to preserve Mayo's Standard of Ethics and minimize the financial and legal risks for Mayo. The Tax Manager also conducts research and analysis, benchmarking, and audits to ensure reasonableness and accuracy of information, maintains documents to support positions taken, and identifies and implements best practices and improvements.

The Tax Manager mentors, coaches, trains and assists in decision making for the work unit. The Tax Manager may be assigned direct supervisory responsibilities for staff in the Tax Department. The Tax Manager will be responsible for managing relationships and costs with external consultants. The Tax Manager is expected to make a minimum of a two year commitment to their role in the Tax Department.

NOTE: This position is 100% remote - can work anywhere within the 50 states of North America.

Qualifications

The Tax Manager position requires a Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience in health care, finance, accounting, business, or systems; or a Law Degree or Master's degree in health care, finance, accounting, business, or systems with 3 years relevant experience in noted areas; certifications may be considered in lieu of experience. A minimum of two to three years of experience in a Mayo Tax Analyst position is required or the equivalent in experience as applicable to the duties of the work unit. The position requires demonstrated analytical experience, and strong personal computer, communication, project management, leadership, problem solving, continuous improvement, customer service, and team building skills.
