Machine Learning drives customer experiences and optimizations across CarMax- From pricing vehicles, to helping customers find the right car, to driving efficiencies in our key operational processes. We are looking for a passionate, innovative Technology Manager to lead the engineering branch of Machine Learning at CarMax!

The Manager of Technology for Machine Learning OPs, is a key leader in providing reliable and scalable machine-learning capabilities across the organization. The Technology Manager will be responsible for the talent selection and career development of a team of very talented and passionate software/ML engineers, who closely partner with Data Scientists in productionalizing models. The ideal candidate will have a passion and understanding of Data Science and Machine Learning and will have the substantial experience in software engineering and cloud engineering that is necessary to turn those models into highly visible, mission-critical capabilities that drive CarMax's iconic customer experience.

Technical Qualifications:
  • 5+ years' experience in Software Engineering of highly scalable services platforms/ecosystems
  • 3+ years' experience in building and managing Machine-Learning Systems.
  • 3+ years' experience in Cloud Engineering, with knowledge in distributed computing preferred
  • Demonstrated innate passion for the Data Science and Machine-Learning, building scalable ML platforms/ecosystems
  • Solid work experience using Deep Learning as tools to solve business problems

Management Qualifications:
  • 1 to 3+ years' experience managing direct reports, required
  • 3+ years of experience required leading software projects leveraging Agile practices, required
  • Demonstrated leadership skills - can apply clear direction and priorities to teams
  • Serves as an empowering coach to the team by providing them with the resources, training, feedback, and a sounding-board to be successful in their roles balancing technical debt with speed-to-delivery customer focused team,
  • Promotes a customer-focused team, balancing technical debt with speed-to-delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to provide vision for the Cloud Engineering, Software Engineering, and Machine-Learning spaces and inspire teams towards the future
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or Data Science; Master's preferred
  • Candidate must be legally authorized to work for any U.S. employer on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will be considered for this specific role.
  • Work location is flexible if approved by the Company except that position may not be performed remotely from Hawaii or Colorado
