THE OPPORTUNITY: We are seeking a talented Manager, Data Science who will manage strategic projects, act as a team lead by mentoring project leads and play the role of advisor to our business in matters of data science and machine learning. The role will lead a team of data scientists that provide solutions to all business verticals within Co-op with the mission to provide analytical solutions that enable business leaders to make better decisions quickly. The manager is insatiably curious about data and uses that passion to find insights hidden within the trillions of credit union transactions we have access to. SUPERVISOR FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: As required, manage the professional performance and development of team members including training. As required, ensure team members follow and adhere to company standards, policies and procedures. As required, manage direct employee reviews. Follow and ensure team adhere to Co-op company policies. Monitor and plan resource capacity needs, requirements and reporting. Actively supports Co-op's strategic culture and leadership practices. WHAT YOU CAN LOOK FORWARD TO: Collaborates with stakeholders throughout the business to understand existing processes and identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive solutions. Provides oversight and guidance when required to other data science team members. Recommends training opportunities to further advance individuals and the Co-op Data Science practice. Designs and builds custom AI driven data models and algorithms to optimize products and processes. Works as a cross-functional team member adhering to Agile principles and philosophies to help complete and deliver the team commitments. Interprets data analysis and model results for business and technical teams. Communicates with Co-op stakeholders at all levels including senior level executives and clients. Coordinates with business and technical teams to monitor and implement models. Develops processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance. Manages, monitors and reports risks, including Information Security risks. Manages IT teams delivering strategic and enterprise level for data-driven projects and support. Provides leadership and mentoring to the Data Management team and meets with team members on a regular basis. Communicates and executes company programs and initiatives to teams. Fosters and facilitates constructive interaction between data management team and other department. Reviews business charters, project requests, and requests for support and data and provide high level estimates where required. Helps with the Data Management prioritization of requests, projects and support efforts. Communicates updates on a regular basis to all levels of the organization. Serves as critical cross-functional escalation point of contact for data management organization. Provides data management leadership with regular updates on projects and support including metric reporting. Responsible consolidating and reporting risks that are identified to the appropriate team and/or management. Responsible for managing, monitoring and reporting Data Management organization. Adhere to Agile principles and philosophies (Scrum or Kanban, as applicable) in fulfillment of the role. Collaborate within the direct team in accordance with Team Agreement, Definition of Ready, and Definition of Done. Work as a cross-functional team member in an Agile setting to help complete and deliver the team commitments. Collaborate across teams and across business areas in the spirit of an Agile mindset. Fulfill the role in the spirit of the Agile Manifesto, with emphasis on delivery of incremental value with frequent iterations and feedback loops. WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED: A passion to develop people, build relationships and a growth mindset. Statistical mindset and a strong curiosity about business processes and data. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong ability to tell a story with data and visualizations. REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: 3+ years of experience with SQL and relational databases. 3+ years of exposure to cloud and big data technologies. 3+ years in Data Bricks and Python. 3+ years in managing direct reports or 5+ as a team lead. 5+ years in developing ML models. Random Forest experience is required. 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, Quantitative Analyst, Statistician or similar role is required. MS/PhD degree in Statistics, Operations Research or a similar quantitative discipline is required. For Colorado Applicants: In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this Colorado position is between: $111,000.00 - $144,000.00 Actual Pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
