Job Description

Our engineering headquarters is based out of Portland Oregon, but we are remote-friendly, and our team has engineers in multiple time zones.

The Telemetry Data Platform group at New Relic builds the foundation for all of our products: data ingest, storage, and query. As a lead engineer on the Ingest team, you'll engage in development in New Relic's front door, our data ingest pipeline, from the edge to the places that power New Relic products.

We own our software from top to bottom and are directly responsible for its deployment, quality, and reliability. Each member of the team owns our full-stack. We participate in an on-call rotation; so we prioritize work that keeps the lights on and the pager quiet. We innovate and automate, ensuring the highest performing and most stable Ingest product.

What You'll Do
  • Lead designs, construction, and maintenance of highly available, real-time streaming, distributed solutions within a remote, agile team environment.
  • Participate in technical solutions with a high degree of innovation and creativity.
  • Take ownership of the full development pipeline from start to finish.
  • Ship high-quality code incrementally and often, balancing operational needs with new feature development.
  • Design & maintain solution, debug, and performance tune for large-scale distributed streaming systems. You could expect to be resolving race conditions, concurrency, and performance type issues.
Your Qualifications

Must-have:

  • 10+ years of experience delivering software built with Java.
  • Experience with the edge, CDN software (Cloudflare, Akamai, Fastly, or any programmable edge providers.
  • Adaptability for our future; learning and working with different languages and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and streaming systems fundamentals and concurrency.
  • Desire to deliver high-quality production code at a regular cadence using Agile techniques, tools, and methodologies.
  • Thrives in a remote team setting using strong written and oral collaboration skills using tools such as slack and zoom.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience mentoring and growing junior developers.
  • Experience with observability platforms.
