Position Overview
The IT Systems Administrator’s role is to optimize and maintain technology solutions that support teaching, learning, and administrative operations. The ideal candidate will analyze current systems, recommend improvements, and ensure that educational institutions leverage technology effectively to enhance student learning outcomes and institutional efficiency.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Systems Analysis & Optimization:
- Evaluate existing educational software, student information systems (SIS), and learning management systems (LMS).
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend upgrades or new solutions.
- Ensure seamless integration of systems with district/state education regulations and compliance standards.
- Be aware of emerging technologies to enhance digital learning environments.
- Project Management & Implementation:
- Collaborate with educators, administrators, and IT teams to define technology needs.
- Assist in the implementation of new applications, software, and database systems.
- Develop and execute testing plans for new system functionalities.
- Manage timelines using project management tools like Asana to ensure efficient delivery.
- Data Management & Reporting:
- Support the management of student records, attendance systems, and assessment data.
- Implement data validation procedures to maintain high-quality datasets for reporting.
- Generate reports and dashboards to aid decision-making. If appropriate, include data visualization.
- Ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations (e.g., FERPA, GDPR).
- Technical Support & Training:
- Provide troubleshooting assistance for system-related issues.
- Train teachers, administrators, and support staff on new technologies.
- Create user guides, documentation, and video walkthroughs for IT systems.
- Cybersecurity & Compliance:
- Monitor and enhance security protocols for educational systems.
- Ensure systems adhere to accessibility and compliance requirements.
- Assist in risk assessment and disaster recovery planning.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- 3+ years of experience in systems analysis, IT support, or education technology.
- Familiarity with LMS (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas) and SIS (e.g., PowerSchool, Infinite Campus).
- Proficiency in SQL, database management, and cloud-based systems.
- Knowledge of K-12, higher education, or e-learning environments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Education & Certification Requirements
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred but not required; significant experience will be accepted in place of a degree.
- Certification in ITIL is preferred but not required.
