The Department of Economic Security, Governance & Innovation Administration (GIA), is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to join our team as an Intern. This position will be responsible for working with GIA leadership to ensure the Department’s activities are conducted in a manner that is accountable, compliant, transparent, responsive, inclusive, equitable, accessible, and participatory. This includes researching, analyzing, organizing, and coordinating tasks relating to DES administrative policies, rulemaking, best practice initiatives, public records requests, privacy incident response and mitigation, and litigation holds.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the department's needs and continual meetings of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Meeting with Division and Program personnel to address issues with policy, rules, public record, privacy and best practice initiatives.
• Organizing Department documents and records and evaluating Department inquiries related to policy, rules, public records, and privacy.
• Support GIA team members in completing core work within GIA, including potentially researching or drafting policy or rules and managing public records requests.
• Assisting in responding to inquiries from Executive Leadership, Division Leadership, and DES staff.
• Participating in activities within the Department to learn and understand the Department, State of Arizona Government, and the work being done on behalf of the citizens of Arizona.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
• Government structure and administration, principles and practices of administration with special reference to organization, research, analysis and theory
• Report writing techniques
• Office practices and procedures.

Skills In:
• Communicating with colleagues at all levels of the organization and the public with tact and diplomacy.
• Oral, written and communication and presentation.
• Analysis and interpretation of data.
• Performing legal research.

Ability to:
• Learn DES programs, policies, procedures, Arizona Revised Statutes and Federal regulations.
• Perform analytical work.
• Write and speak with clarity.
• Use computer programs and software.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Must be pursuing an Associate, Bachelor, Master, Juris Doctor or Doctorate degree in business administration, law, public management, or comparable discipline from an accredited college or university at the time of hire and have an interest in government policy.
• Must have minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Must provide a letter of recommendation from a Professor or Guidance Counselor.
• All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
• Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
• This position may require driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
