WHAT YOU WILL DO
onX is seeking one 9-month fixed-term Geospatial Data Operations Specialist who has a passion for geospatial data and technology that enables our customers’ outdoor adventures. As an onX Geospatial Data Operations Specialist, you will provide support for our core data types that power the suite of onX mobile apps. You will manually curate data to resolve Quality Control exceptions, acquire new datasets, and enroll data into our processing pipelines. This position will report to a manager within our Geospatial Data Operations team.
As an onX Geospatial Data Operations Specialist, your essential job duties and responsibilities will look like:
- Acquire geospatial data from a variety of sources.
- Process spatial data within our established processing pipelines.
- Conduct quality control checks on spatial data within a map editing environment to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Communicate with the team leads to address any issues.
- Critically analyze existing processes and make suggestions for improvements.
- Provide support to ad hoc data processing needs.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Education: Certificate, Associate's Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Analysis, or closely related field.
- Experience with desktop Geospatial software such as QGIS or ArcMap.
- Ability to follow instructions as provided in process documentation.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized self-starter.
- Patience for repetitive tasks.
- Ability to maintain a positive, helpful, constructive attitude.
- Ability to establish and maintain efficient working relationships with other onX employees.
- Desire to contribute to a strong team dynamic.
ADDED BONUSES
Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:
- Experience working with cadastral, trails/transportation, and/or points of interest (POI) data.
- Experience with editing OpenStreetMap (OSM) data via the iD Editor.

onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub”.
- Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time, this is a great option.
- Basecamps: onX’s Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure.
- Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
- Connection Hubs: onX’s Connection Hub locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members.
- Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Charlotte, NC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.
HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED
onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $25.00 to $27.50/hour upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description.
