Tanzu Mission Control is designed to give customers a single pane of glass for all their Kubernetes clusters so they can monitor, verify, apply policy, back-up and restore with ease.We are looking for a manager to lead the TMC Data Services Team which is responsible for building a platform to stream, process, visualize and draw intelligence from all the data collected from Kubernetes clusters managed by TMC.What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?We need someone who can collaborate with technical leads, product management and other engineering teams to innovate core technologies in big data streaming, processing, and visualization, to build a data and event platform that all Tanzu products can rely on, and to provide intelligence and visualization of all data gathered from Kubernetes clusters managed by TMC to delight customers.This manager will need to be cognizant of their team's goals and build out specialized plans for individuals to have opportunities for personal/professional growth as well as keeping the team on track with deadlines and milestones for the overall project.Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?Project Management: You'll be expected to build a roadmap for your team in collaboration with your product management counterpart. You will be responsible for executing the roadmap and managing projects to meet deadlines while maintaining a healthy and sustainable team.Collaboration: You will be collaborating with technical leads, product management, and other engineering teams to prioritize which features to target and plan out what that development of those features will look like.Process establishment: You'll be expected to establish and refine processes to achieve high productivity of the team and to ensure high quality of the cloud services the team owns.Team Growth: You will also be expected to provide guidance to your team members. Helping your team members grow will be an integral part of this role. You will need to understand each member's strength and identify areas for growth, remove barriers and guide team members to grow their skills and careers.What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?As the manager of the Data Services Team, you will:Perform project planning for the team by understanding the product priorities, team capacity, cross-team dependencies and feature estimate.Plan sprints and ensure sprint goals are met.Review design documentation to ensure architecture is sound.Help the team improve the velocity of shipping software to production without reducing quality.Build a career development plan for each team member and have regular career discussions with team members.Manage the performance of team members.Hire high performing engineers to grow the team.Build a healthy team culture which values customer obsession, strong ownership, delivery on commitment, and continuous learning.What is the leadership like for this role? Prior to Vmware, Yi was a Software Development Manager in Amazon, leading a team in Alexa to build highly scalable and reliable cloud services that leverage cutting edge AI technologies.Yi currently leads the Fleet Services team in Tanzu Mission Control, which is composed of 2 teams, Data Services Team and Integration Platform Team.
