Pinterest is where hundreds of millions of people come to search for ideas—from dinner recipes to design inspiration to what to wear next. We’re reimagining how people search on Pinterest, starting with the entry point.

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Search Discovery Experience team. This team owns how users start their search journey—across all surfaces and platforms and input types. That includes the search bar, autocomplete, the search landing page, multimodal input (text, image, voice), and how we understand and disambiguate intent.

This is a high-visibility, 0→1 role focused on building the next generation of search experiences—powered by AI, rooted in context, and designed to feel conversational and intuitive.

What you'll do:

  • Lead a cross-platform team (iOS, Android, Web, Backend) building the core entry points into Search
  • Define and deliver a roadmap for multimodal, context-aware, and assistive search input
  • Build scalable, performant systems for autocomplete, query understanding, and multi-modal search entries
  • Collaborate with PM, Design, ML, and infra teams to create seamless search experiences across surfaces
  • Drive 0→1 product and infra development with a strong bias toward iteration and speed.
  • Hire, grow, and mentor engineers across levels while building a healthy, high-performing team

What we're looking for:

  • 2+ years of engineering management experience and 6+ years of experience building consumer products.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams across frontend and backend.
  • Strong technical background in at least one area: mobile, web, backend.
  • Experience with search systems, autocomplete, or intent understanding is a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to partner closely with PM/design on 0→1 product development.
  • Passion for building fast, assistive, and AI-powered user experience.s
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with high ambiguity and high upside.
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, or equivalent experience.

Relocation Statement:

  • This position is not eligible for relocation assistance. Visit our PinFlex page to learn more about our working model.

In-Office Requirement Statement:

  • We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
  • This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times per half and therefore can be situated anywhere in the country.
