Development and Fundraising

Director, Prospect Strategy and Management (Partially Remote Work)

The Director of Prospect Strategy and Management, working in constant and close partnership with all gift officers across the Development department, takes leadership in overseeing prospect/moves management, portfolio management, and all related reporting including individual performance metrics. The Director supports gift officers in formulating strategy as part of their preparation, and, most importantly, plays a key leadership role in ensuring that Mount Sinai Development maintains a robust prospect pool at the principal ($5M+) and major ($1M+) gift levels. The Director will work closely with senior leadership on pipeline projects.

  • Maintain close, ongoing working partnerships with front-line Gift Officers to manage their prospect portfolios, assisting them with portfolio-wide prioritization and goal-setting as well as prospect-specific strategy formulation and moves identification. Conduct monthly Portfolio Consultation Meetings.
  • Oversee the moves management system in actual practice, monitoring its effectiveness and proactively identifying improvements to the system. Serve as a champion of and resource for the moves management system, driving the gift officers and their support staff to continually enter all relevant gift officer activity (past and planned) into the Development database; serve as their primary contact and liaison for reporting needs related to prospect and moves management.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to development staff to maintain guidelines for moves management integration in the database
  • In partnership with Senior Director of Prospect Strategy and Management and senior development leadership, craft and inform the agenda for Major Gift meetings, and play an active contributing role in all such meetings to maximize their value.
  • Partner with Prospect Research and others in the organization to identify donors and prospects for discovery visits through various sources.
  • Oversee training and best practice materials produced by the Prospect Strategy & Management team to ensure standardized efforts across the officer - at all Gift Officer levels.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of Prospect Management or related Development experience, preferably in a Healthcare environment.
  • Strategic thinker with proven experience and success in strategizing and partnering with front line fundraising team on solicitation of six and seven-figure gifts from very high net worth individuals with the ability of translating possibilities into breakthrough strategies
  • Mastery of Relationship Science mapping program, social networking and media, advanced internet research, Wealth Engine and Raiser's Edge.

General Skills

  • Effective communicator, action-oriented, and eager to embrace new opportunities with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.
  • Deep knowledge of funding for scientific research with proven record of understanding of capital campaigns, venture capital fundraising models, and impact investing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the New York philanthropic world.
