We are currently assisting our client with their search for a Director, Project Development on their Climate and Clean Energy Team. Duration FTE Location Washington, DC or Seattle, WA Travel Limited, approximately 3-4 times per year domestically Must be able to pass a very extensive background investigation Overview We are searching for a Director to support a new initiative. This position will be focused on identifying, evaluating, and implementing commercial stage projects for emerging climate technologies. The role will include a mix of programmatic work, including technical research and analysis, presentation development, project management support, and partner engagement. It will require the ability to manage multiple deadlines, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, research and write briefing documents, and help expand the reach and scope of the teamrsquos projects and goals. The organization is launching a new initiative to accelerate the deployment of decarbonization technologies. The program will address commercialization challenges for capital intensive climate technologies such as sustainable aviation fuel, green hydrogen, and direct air capture. In support of this initiative, the organization will pool funding from key contributors and put it toward commercial stage demonstration projects that bring down technology costs and support the path to net zero emissions. The program will support project development for these technologies ndash both through upfront grants for high capital cost infrastructure and offtake agreements to support the procurement of low carbon outputs. RESPONSIBILITIES Manage relationships with technology companies and project developers to establish a pipeline of investible projects across priority technology areas Develop and maintain a repository of information on (1) investible projects, including project size, cost, and maturity, and (2) promising project developers, including technology evaluations and past project performance Design and manage the process for evaluating and selecting projects for investment, including selection criteria, rubrics and evaluation tools, a governance process to ensure projects are independently reviewed, and funding models to maximize impact Write requests for information and proposals to engage bidders and collect applications for the program Evaluate individual projects based on key selection criteria, including technology performance, scalability, financial additionality, cost, and expected time to market Work with program funding recipients to ensure project success and scalability, including support in developing relationships with industry, conducting technoeconomic analyses, and making strategic decisions Help disseminate key findings across projects and share best practices among technology developers Set up systems and files to ensure that all project and program information is appropriately documented and tracked SKILLS AND EXPERIENCESubject Matter Expertise General expertise in the clean energy and climate change space, including familiarity with decarbonization technologies, policies, and key stakeholders Knowledge of the climate technology and innovation lifecycle, including experience addressing decarbonization challenges Technical understanding of key climate technologies, including green hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel, and direct air capture Experience in procurement, infrastructure project development, and project finance for energy companies Written Verbal Communication Ability to processrespond to a high volume of researchproject requests with clarity and accuracy Ability to distill complex information into simple, consumable concepts Ability to compose executive correspondence Ability to design and implement organized, consistent processes Technical Skills Expertise in Excel and PowerPoint proficient in using MS Outlook, Word, and OneNote Project management and facilitation Education and Work Experience Strong work tenure with around 8-12 years of relevant experience Bachelor's degree required PhD preferred Desire to be part of a fast-paced and ambitious team where the work and priorities regularly evolve to meet the moment Our client celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all.
