Primary responsibilities include:
  • Leads and manages teams with responsibility for coaching actuaries and developing student actuaries
  • Understand and interpret key drivers of health care trends
  • Conduct and evaluate studies on pricing, utilization and health care costs and manage the development of pricing methodologies and assumptions
  • Mentor and develop your elite team of actuaries and help them create unique solutions to complex problems
  • Design and run complex data programs to perform mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling
  • Analyze forecasts and trends and translate highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences including senior leaders
  • Being part of an intensely driven and focused team that is accountable for constantly improving business results
  • Being a trusted subject matter expert who's called on to incorporate traditional actuarial expertise into novel, cutting edge actuarial solutions
  • Ensuring that program rates are adequate and actuarially sound
  • Set team direction, resolves problems and provides guidance to members of own team
  • May oversee work activities of other supervisors
  • Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges
  • Influence or provide input to forecasting and planning activities
  • Product, service or process decisions are most likely to impact multiple groups of employees and/or customers (internal or external)

Required Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Economics or related degree
  • 5+ years of Actuarial experience
  • Actuarial experience in the health care or finance industry
  • Basic or higher level of proficiency with Excel, SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)


Preferred Qualifications:
  • ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation
  • Supervisory experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut and/or Nevada residents is $110,200 to $211,700. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
