We are seeking an Associate Disability Income Underwriter to join our team! You will be responsible for working with our customers and agents and brokers during the individual disability income insurance sales and service process.

The team is composed of underwriters supporting our MassMutual Financial Advisors (MMFA) distribution channel. We support MassMutual career agents, individual brokers and the consumers they serve. Job Description

We are looking for a virtual Associate Underwriter to join our team, tasked with developing the skills needed to underwrite disability insurance in a fast-paced diverse work environment that is inclusive and values different experiences, backgrounds and knowledge.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Learn and effectively apply underwriting policies, guidelines, practices, and procedures.
  • Work independently and with a mentor on assigned cases.
  • Determine whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazard, and financial background, considering the total case.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather information necessary for decision-making and to select profitable risks.
  • Focus on the customer experience for our MMFA agents, brokers and field office staff.
  • Tailor communication style to fit a variety of target audiences, foster relationships and facilitate placement of business.
  • Provide consultations with agents, brokers and field office staff to address risk-related concerns.
  • Leverage interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills to develop relationships with key business partners across this competitive landscape.
  • Build trust and foster strong rapport with colleagues, business partners and the field.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve using data to drive toward resolution
  • Technologically and digitally savvy with high intellectual curiosity
  • Demonstrated track record of working with minimal supervision, being a self-starter and working with others in a team environment
  • Proven customer service skills (1-3 years)
  • Positive, inclusive, agile and collaborative mindset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
  • Flexibility to handle changing priorities
  • Collaborative team player with ability to contribute to a positive work environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Related industry experience
  • Salary range $55,000 - $75,000
