Job Description

Remote, open to work at home in the United StatesBackground/Role Summary:Project Cornerstone is a significant multi-year project to transform Cigna's Medicare Advantage business by introducing a new core platform and an enhanced operating model that will improve cost structure, customer outcomes, key stakeholder experience and operational compliance. Cigna is seeking an experienced lawyer with a mix of healthcare-related commercial and/or IT contracting and project management experience to serve as the dedicated legal resource for this high-profile project. Additional health plan operational and regulatory experience, especially with Medicare Advantage plans, would be beneficial but is not necessary. Responsibilities Serve as primary legal resource and strategic business partner for Project Cornerstone. Quickly develop a thorough understanding of Cigna Medicare's current business model, operational infrastructure, people, and compliance requirements. Assist in the review, drafting and negotiation of third party vendor contracts, intercompany agreements, policies and procedures necessary to facilitate Project Cornerstone. Proactively engage and leverage other existing Legal, Compliance and Operational resources within Cigna to help drive timely completion of Project Cornerstone. Proactively identify legal and compliance issues that could arise from Project Cornerstone (including Medicare Advantage compliance and privacy issues). Engage with Cigna Legal, Compliance and Operations subject matter experts to pre-emptively address those issues. Assist Medicare Compliance team in analyzing and updating existing policies and procedures, as well as existing oversight, monitoring, and reporting functions that will be impacted by Project Cornerstone. Assist Medicare Compliance team in identifying and adopting new best practices. Help coordinate the design of monitoring and control systems to address transaction monitoring and reporting requirements. Also assist in the performance of periodic compliance test audits and regulatory examinations. Help ensure all legal and compliance work for necessary for Project Cornerstone is completed timely and with necessary level of quality. Support rollout of Project Cornerstone including development of any legal or compliance related training programs. Qualifications: JD from an ABA-accredited law school and licensed to practice in at least one US jurisdiction.Minimum 5 years of healthcare-related commercial and/or IT contracting experience, preferably as part of the in-house legal department of a large, matrixed corporation. Health plan experience would be an additional needed. Quick learner with broad range of legal and business experience.Curious mindset. Desire to dig deeply into new subjects and assume new responsibilities.Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills, including negotiation skills.Ability to develop collaborative relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.Ability to proactively identify legal and compliance issues and to propose necessary solutions.Courage to ask questions and seek help from other subject matter experts.Demonstrated organizational skills and track record of helping drive large projects with a diverse set of stakeholders and cross-functional teams.Strong work ethic. Effective time-management skills.
