You will own the monthly close process, revenue recognition, internal controls, audit readiness, and accounting operations across multiple entities. You will act as the “quarterback” for financial data accuracy, coordinating across Finance, Operations, Technology, and external partners to ensure reliable reporting and strong financial governance.

The role will also serve as the primary relationship manager for our outsourced accounting partners, ensuring accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Lead revenue recognition processes and accounting policy compliance
  • Oversee general ledger integrity, account reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries
  • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external audits and audit preparation
  • Manage relationships with Pilot, external accounting providers, tax advisors, and auditors
  • Partner with the SVP Finance on financial reporting, board materials, fundraising support, and strategic projects
  • Drive improvements in accounting systems, automation, and reporting processes
  • Review complex accounting transactions and provide technical accounting guidance
  • Oversee cash reconciliation processes and balance sheet accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements
  • Build scalable accounting processes to support company growth
  • Mentor and develop accounting team members as the organization expands
  • Act as the internal owner of financial data quality and reporting accuracy across systems

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition principles
  • Experience managing audits and external accounting relationships
  • Experience in e-commerce, marketplace, subscription, SaaS, or consumer businesses preferred
  • Strong systems knowledge, including QuickBooks, Bill.com, Stripe, Shopify, or similar platforms
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • High attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

What We Offer

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Comprehensive medical & dental insurance (up to 100% company contribution)
