Controller for a permanent position working fully remote.
Position Overview Serves as key financial advisor to the President. Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations incurred to predict future revenues, expenses and cash flow. Reports organization's finances to management and the board. Prepares balance sheets, profit & loss statements, cash flow statements and other financial reports. Understands the marine software industry s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Experience with general administration of business operations.
Job Duties/Roles - Responsible for timely, accurate, and efficient accounting close monthly.
- Manage accounting functions daily including invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, treasury management, and general ledger accounting, including the following:
- Create monthly Accounts Receivable Aging reports and follow up on results to collect or clear items. Provide management and the board with aging and status updates.
- Utilize client portals to deliver invoices and monitor payment status. Work with customers and business team to facilitate timely collections.
- Ensure client deposits are received timely and applied to invoicing appropriately.
- Oversee process to create projects, monthly WIP reports, meet with project teams to discuss, and adjust completion percentages as needed. Communicate the results to management and the board via financial statements.
- Oversee and perform Accounts Payable processes to ensure timely payment of invoices and forecasting of expenses.
- Prepare monthly journal entries and perform monthly account reconciliations.
- Calculate and report monthly depreciation of assets.
- Manage outsourced functions (e.g., Payroll); Assist outsourced payroll provider by calculating hours worked and bonus payout amounts.
- Manage insurance renewal process, requests for information and claims.
- Use automated accounting software (Deltek Vision) to complete tasks.
- Automate processes that were previously manual in nature and document related policies and procedures. Update internal controls documentation as needed.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, evaluate performance against budget, and develop rolling 12-month forecasts to provide an accurate projection of financial performance.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP. Prepare and deliver monthly management financial reporting package, including variance analyses.
- Coordinate and present quarterly Board of Directors reporting packages.
- Manage the preparation of any regulatory filings.
- Manage projects and initiative as assigned by President.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required - Bachelor s degree in accounting or related field.
- Operate effectively in a distributed work environment using online tools for records, communication and other work processes such that the management team can readily access data.
- Effective financial and management reporting skills to ensure financial information can be presented in a user-friendly format.
- Thorough knowledge of current business and accounting software; ability to automate manual tasks.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness and flexibility to work extra hours as required.
- Minimum of 5-10 years experience
- Currently remote work reporting to the President located in Denver; limited travel to Alameda CA may be required upon hiring for hand-over.
Must be willing to train for two weeks in Almeda, CA

Salary Range: $75k D.O.E.
