Code4Kids Curriculum Developer: Contractor

Code4Kids.is here to make teaching easier. We’re a fast-growing company that provides teachers with the curriculum and training they need to teach coding, robotics and IT to students grade 4 to 9 in the school classroom. Founded in South Africa, Code4Kids now operates globally, in most English speaking nations around the world. We’re looking for a talented and ambitious Curriculum Developer to help us accelerate the release of the Code4Kids curriculum.

Our two guiding principles are (1) Teacher First, we believe first and foremost in training and supporting teachers and secondly (2) Real Code, Real content, we believe it is critically important to teach junior school students real code such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and Python as opposed to obfuscating it behind game-like environments. 

At Code4Kids, you'll get to work closely with teachers, students, and districts to develop the best curriculum possible. A big focus of yours will be creating and directing new content and building a feedback loop to ensure continuous improvement of the content. 

You'll be working with the Code4Kids curriculum team, sales team, engineers and co-founders of the company, and have full access to business metrics. Our ideal candidate for this role is a teacher with proven aptitude and experience in teaching coding and hands-ond development of curriculum-aligned content.

What will help you to find success in this role:

• A good time keeper with the ability to project manage yourself and clearly communicate progress, difficulties or lack of clarity.
• Be able to break large projects into small frequent releases.
• Able to spend days or hours working through problems yourself, often without frequent contact, balanced with the enjoyment of small-group team meetings and creative discussions.

Remuneration and work environment:

• Code4Kids is a fully-remote team, from time-to-time we might ask you to join us at our office in Cape Town should it be practical.
• This contract will be month-to-month with the intention for it to be valid for up to 12 months.
• It will require approximately 15-20 hour of work each week.
• You will report directly to the Head of Curriculum. Remuneration is based on experience.
  

As a Curriculum Developer Contractor, you will be required to:

• Work closely with the curriculum team to release new courses and lessons. This includes the pedagogical and government standard research, ideation, design, development, implementation and testing.
• Be able to co-ordinate and project management the team to ensure projects are done in a timely manner. 
• Be able to take full ownership of new courses.
• You will need to have experience in development of Foundation Phase content (Grade 1-3).

Requirements of the role:

• A University degree is not needed, but would be ideal. 2+ years of experience in the industry
• Experience with curriculum development (design, create, feedback).
• Experience with teaching coding in the school classroom.
• Ideally, you also have a coding background, but being a teacher and fast learner is more important.
• Ideally experience in creating video content, i.e., video 1, video 2, video 3
  

Realities of the Role

Working in a remote role with high-paced release requirements will result in some days feeling challenging while others will be very high energy. Oftentimes, you will need to be managing multiple projects of different sizes, in various stages of the development.
