Summary Associate Director of Social Strategy

Calling all social media trendspotters, TikTok scrollers and Instagram double-tappers: AMP Agency is hiring for an Associate Director of Social Strategy. This person will lead social media strategies and overall social presences for well-known consumer brands. They will be responsible for defining their clients' strategic approach to delivering against business objectives, utilizing best practices and actionable insights to inform channel-specific strategies across owned social platforms. They will also contribute to the evolution of our agency's social team through best-in-class thinking and work closely with account, creative and client teams across key strategic initiatives.

  • 7+ years social media experience with 2+ in a client-facing role
  • Well-versed in planning social-first strategies and campaigns, carefully selecting the correct channels, leading content, and approving tactics to engage target audiences
  • Experience and interest in managing and mentoring junior team members
  • Knack for knowing what content resonates with different audiences
  • Passion for understanding cultural trends and consumer motivations
  • Ability to analyze performance across social media platforms to identify trends, learnings and implications from both a paid and organic perspective
  • Experience with social media management software (Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Netbase, Sprinklr, etc.)
  • Formulating high performance social campaign plans that reflect client objectives and KPIs
  • Utilizing social audience and consumer research and insights to develop approach and tactics that meets business goals
  • Advising clients on the correct approach to best reach business objectives through social media, acting as a trusted leader in the face of internal and external teams
  • Working closely with internal teams, including creative and analytics, to deliver actionable insights that will inspire the larger team's thinking
  • Measuring and reporting, with a clear view on what's working and why, to demonstrate value and optimize go-forward performance
  • Partnering closely with creative and strategy teams to develop briefs that help reach social media objectives
  • Cultivating a deep knowledge of social media behaviors across consumer segments, platforms, and verticals, used to inform how AMP's clients advertise and engage across channels
  • Effectively communicating ideas, recommendations, updates and progress clearly and professionally, both to internal and client-facing teams as needed.
  • Managing direct reports, including community managers and junior social strategists

Job Purpose

The Associate Director Strategy & Planning serves as the business leader responsible for all Strategic Planning services and support activities and provides leadership of the Strategy and Planning team while providing accountability for the company's strategic goals. Primary role is to provide strategic development and program planning of all events and special projects in order to drive the achievement of budgeted revenue targets and grow the business through new value propositions, with and through a team of direct and indirect reports. The Associate Director Strategy & Planning is high visibility position responsible for the direction and management of Strategy & Planning including; competitive insights, custom client research, shopper insights and syndicated/research data analysis to drive creative strategy, program and presentation development.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Managing Strategy & Planning within the Sales Ecosystem

•Work closely with VP Client Services to align and prioritize strategy and planning activities to support sales and EBITDA goals•Work closely with VP Client Services / Cross Functional teams to ensure customer's expectations are met and overall business plans and strategies are achieved•Build and manage internal cross-functional teams of subject matter experts and/or to ensure strategic planning business wins•Lead the development and implementation of new strategic planning initiatives from initial concept discussion with client, competitive analysis, strategy development, proposal creation to obtaining approval from senior management teams•Present strategic frameworks for brands/categories/strategic initiatives based on a customer-centric approach that is rooted in customer insights, category business analysis, competitive brand activity, etc.•Target opportunities for growth, support the development of winning proposals, and maintain opportunity momentum to expand client revenue and connectivity •Conduct store or event checks while programs are executing to better understand the in store execution and opportunities to improve

Client and Cross Functional Leadership

• Travel to customer and client locations to participate in key meetings to obtain valuable onsite knowledge of team dynamics, and customer and client operations. •Research competitive activity in focus customers to help drive innovation and growth.•Work with internal client and external customer to identify insights and define solutions for customers that drive brand/category/channel growth for client•Engage concepting and creative teams on all projects to ensure creative materials tie back to the brand or client's objectives and strategic initiatives•Work with Leadership and Cross Functional Teams to gather and monitor client intelligence, build client executive business relationships and resource alignment


•Strengthen research and analytical skills through increased usage, obtaining training or partnering with client or Cross functional teams on best practices, new capabilities/systems or on specific databases of information (e.g., Nielsen, IRI, Simmons). •Work with company Teams, including the SMARTeam, to gather sound insights and research to develop strong strategic customer plans. •Ensure that all recommended program concepts and ideas are rooted in customer and category/brand insights•Drive proactive growth opportunities by channel category or adjacent service segment by identifying business and market trends.•Manage the analysis process for current year activity to help drive development of future plans
