Position Profile:
The R&D IT organization functions as a trusted advisor to enable strategy, deliver value through projects and drive adaption of new technology, information and data solutions that closely align with the Jazz R&D business strategy, goals, and objectives. We partner with our business stakeholders to align our digital transformation strategy and technology innovations roadmap to our R&D business strategic objectives, and drive change management to accelerate adoption & benefits realization of technology & data solutions.

The R&D IT/IS Portfolio Manager, Associate Director role, leads a team of project managers, and establishes centralized management and oversight for R&D IT investment projects and programs, investments planning, resourcing, and budgets. Supports the R&D IT Strategic Governance Framework tasked to identify and prioritize technology & data initiatives investments with R&D stakeholders and R&D Leadership Team. In partnership with IT Strategy & Business Operations team, applies best practices and implements agile project & portfolio management with support from R&D IT Project Managers and Business Analysts reporting to this role. Leads technology change impact assessment(s) and defines change management approach in partnership with the R&D IT Business Partners and R&D business Process Owners.


Provides leadership, and hands-on project management (as needed), across all R&D technology initiatives, and oversees development and management of R&D IT projects from beginning to end, including project scope, timeline, resource allocation, budgets, and project execution;

Develops understanding of R&D business strategy and roadmap to effectively support the R&D IT Strategic Governance Framework tasked with the identification and prioritization of R&D technology investments planning and roadmap;

Supports the head of R&D IT with overall management of R&D IT budget and resource planning;

Hires, manages and develops a team of internal project managers and external partners in executing the project management & software development lifecycles, driving adoption, and measuring the value / effectiveness of implemented systems & processes;

Ensures team members embrace GxP, IS Compliance, IS Security, data privacy, and other risk management considerations, and that they are embedded in projects and operations;

Establishes best practices with team members to proactively manage change control and communicate impact in project scope, identify risks/issues, and devising contingency plans;

Identifies and manages project dependencies and critical paths while maintaining accurate project plans with real-time milestones, tasks, and project health data for R&D technology investments portfolio in the PPM tool (Clarity);

Acts as an escalation point for the portfolio and project stakeholders to manage risks, develop mitigation plans, and a path to green throughout the project;

In partnership with R&D IT business partners and business stakeholders ensures appropriate documentation on processes that are critical to successfully implementing your projects;

Identifies opportunities to streamline project delivery and leverage agile project management methodologies, shares best practices with peers and leaders, and implements continuous improvement action;

Measures, monitors, and maintains the team's ability to meet or exceed KPI's;

Serves as a thought leader and change agent to drive results;

Required Experience

Served as a portfolio/project manager managing critical IT projects from initiation to closure, or IT business relationship manager within a global organization with a proven track record of delivering business and technical solutions. This includes leading business process improvement initiatives or leading the selection and deployment of new technologies;

Robust project management experience in an international, team-oriented cross-functional environment. Managed project teams of varying size and resource mix / skill sets;

Organizational change management experience, leveraging key change management principals and tools for the rollout of new capabilities and introduction of change to the business. In addition, monitored and drove the adoption of new business processes and support IT capabilities;

Experience with Agile SDLC and project management methodologies;

Vendor management experience including vendor evaluation / selection, due diligence, contracting, and performance management. Fosters partnerships and contracts which result in competitive investment for GW and maximizes the efficiency of vendor performance;

Managed financials for projects and IT operations;

Experience with core IT operations and service concepts;

Experience managing conflicts, escalations, negotiating compromise and influencing others and problem solving;

Experience with project management tools;

Key Attributes/Skills/Education - Essential

College degree in related technical or life science disciplines, or MBA from an accredited university is required;

PMP certification is desired;

Proven leadership skills motivating teams to attain critical goals in a dynamic environment with competing priorities and changing deadlines;

Team builder/player able to work effectively with others across global teams;

Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels throughout an organization;

Well organized with the ability to manage/prioritize multiple concurrent projects (often with changing timelines and dependencies) in a matrix team environment;

Experience in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry desired
