Hire Velocity is an Amazon Partner for the Amazon Returnship Program. Essentially, this is a W-2 contract to potential hire situation provided that the candidate meets the Amazon bar after the 16 week "work from home" period. Candidates will be expected to relocate to Seattle if offered full-time employment. Amazon wants this individual to succeed and will do everything in their power during the 16-week period to provide a very supportive, collaborative, transparent, educational, empathetic and compassionate environment. DESCRIPTION This 16-week, paid, virtual employment opportunity is available to candidates who are looking to resume their professional career after experiencing 1+ years of underemployment andor unemployment. The successful candidate will meet all of the basic qualifications of this position and can reside anywhere within the United States. Upon successful completion of the returnship, candidates may receive, but are not guaranteed, an offer for full-time employment. In addition to successfully completing the returnship requirements, offers for full-time employment are contingent upon business need and the candidatersquos advance commitment to relocate, if necessary, to a within commuting distance of the assigned work location office. Relocation assistance is provided for full-time employment opportunities. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of technologies from front-end UI (both web and device) to back-end distributed web services to device software. You will own the quality of major deliverables end-to-end, working closely with multiple engineers and teams to execute them. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS middot Must be unemployed or underemployed for 1+ years (10 months is fine) middot Is not currently enrolled in a Bachelorrsquos or Masterrsquos degree program middot Bachelorrsquos degree in Computer Science, SoftwareComputer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. middot 5+ years of industry experience. middot Experience in manual and automation testing middot Knowledge of QA methodology and industry-standard and bug tracking tools middot Experience driving quality through process, instrumentation, requirements and testing middot Experience developing test strategies, test plans and test cases PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS middot Master's degree in Computer Science or related fields middot Familiarity with at least one programing language such as Java, C, JavaScript, JSON, Python, Ruby, PERL middot Excellent oral and written communication skills middot Understanding of software engineering practices best practices for the full software development life cycle, including agile software development, use of software IDEs, use of source control management middot The ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously middot Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills with the ability to come up with creative solutions to impossible-to-solve problems middot Proven experience defining and leading an effective quality assurance process middot Experience with white box testing Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Technical candidates must meet our technical bar while non-tech candidates must meet critical competencies for their job. Do conversions from returner to full-time employee go through the standard Amazon bar raising interview process? We interview for potential and at the end of the returnship, we assess the returner against the Amazon bar. During the assessment meeting, the manager, mentor and a Bar Raiser (BR) review the project, performance review and work product (e.g., code reviews, written docs), and make a decision on whether or not the returnship candidate raises the bar for an offer. What is the businessrsquos role in the returnship program? Manager Managers provide close support to this population. Managers curate projects with the right scope and that are able to be completed within 16 weeks. Creates an onboarding plan, development plan, continually coaches, and conducts a final evaluation at the returnship end. Provides access to Amazon training and learning resources and assigns a dedicated mentor to provide day-to-day guidance. Mentor Mentors consistently check in with returners and guide them through their work. Mentors assist with onboarding, training, and day-to-day ad-hoc questions. Mentors provide constructive feedback to help returners develop in their role and assists with the preparation of the returnerrsquos final presentation, including reviewing written documents or code. Onboarding Buddy The onboarding buddy helps the returner with their initial work environment setup and familiarity with Amazon processes, policies, and tools. They provide day-to-day guidance on ramping up in the role and on the team. How do we compensate returners? We compensate their base salary at the base range midpoint (non-negotiable). Returners are also eligible for some benefits (e.g., medicalprescription coverage, 401k). Offers to convert to full-time follow standard Amazon practices.
