Job Description

Description: Accountant - Fixed Assets group is seeking an Accountant
Fixed Assets who will be responsible for analyzing, classifying and recording fixed assets (tangible and intangible) in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
This position will be responsible for, but not limited to certain month-end close activities, account reconciliations, journal entries, variance explanations and reporting.
This role is based at our location in Gaithersburg, MD and will report to the Senior Manager of Corporate Accounting.
Responsibilities: Update and maintain the fixed asset database for asset additions, disposals, transfers and other changes
Determine the correct asset classification, depreciation life and proper accounting treatment for fixed assets oMonitor project costs accumulated in construction in progress accounts and capitalize the costs, as appropriate, once the related projects have been completed
Record depreciation
Conduct periodic impairment reviews
Assign tag numbers to fixed assets
Prepare standard and month end journal entries, ensuring transactions are in accordance with U.S. GAAP as well as internal policies and procedures
Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the general ledger, independently researching and documenting reconciling items and, if applicable, making any correcting journal entries oPrepare cost and accumulated depreciation roll forward schedules oPrepare audit schedules and assist with audit inquiries
Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in accounting
5 years of related accounting experience including significant exposure to fixed asset/capitalization issues - predominately at large, multi-national public companies
2-3 years public accounting, Big Four a plus
CPA - Active
Preferred Qualifications: Masters' Degree in Accounting
High emotional IQ - very strong communication and influencing skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively across multiple functional and business groups
A successful track record in getting to the right accounting position
A proven ability to be decisive, resolve issues and deliver on commitments and deadlines
Superior organization and prioritization skills with multi-tasking abilities
Proven self-starter that doesn't need much guidance to get projects done in an excellent manner Superior attention to details
Strong Excel skills
