The 1099 Technical SEO Specialist is responsible for the overall technical health and optimization of client websites. S/he ensures that best practices for crawlability, indexability, technical performance, code attributes, structured data, permalink configuration (among many other things) are followed. The Technical SEO Specialist manages many critical, behind-the-scenes, aspects of our clients’ SEO campaigns.  


  • Actively participates in same-page meetings with the On-Site SEO Manager.
  • Keeps track of relevant metrics in weekly operations scorecard.
  • Ensure proper optimization, configuration, and/or remediation of Technical SEO elements including but not limited to:
    • Meta Data Optimization (page titles, meta descriptions, alt text, etc.)
    • Comprehensive site audits to identify issues and opportunities
    • Site Navigation with information hierarchy and silos
    • Internal Linking strategy and implementation 
    • Indexability (robots files, meta tag directives, canonicalization, redirects)
    • Crawlability (internal linking, server errors, malformed URLs)
    • Sitemaps (on-site and for GSC submission)
    • Multilingual settings (href-lang)
    • Server errors (4xx, 5xx, etc)


  • Must have an active UpWork profile
  • Experience working with the technical aspects of SEO campaigns or similar work.
  • A deep understanding of search engine algorithms and ranking methods (particularly in regard to Google’s search engine)
  • Expert knowledge of Google Search Console and solving GSC Errors 
  • Experience working with Screaming Frog and building technical audits in Google Sheets
  • Experience with SEO industry programs, such as GA4, GTM, Ahrefs, SEMRush, etc.
  • A functional understanding of keyword research and data mining tools.
  • Able to complete competitive analysis as it relates to technical SEO.
  • Comfortable analyzing high volumes of data on a daily basis.
  • Deep understanding of the WordPress CMS and Yoast SEO. A functional knowledge of other popular CMS platforms and page builders is a plus. 
  • Experience with other aspects of marketing, such as customer growth and promotion, is a plus.


  • This 1099 position will start at $10.00/hr at 10 hours per week, then upgraded to 40 hours if performance is met or exceeded.
